On 17^th February 2012 Beach Republic welcomes back world-renowned LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad fresh from their 2011 Christmas Tour gracing the shores of Switzerland, Australia, Dubai and London.

Best known for his jazz fuelled Drum n Bass stylings, Bukem is set to explode alongside MC Conrad who adds his lyrical genius and verbal gymnastics, perfectly complementing  the jazzy, atmospheric Drum n Bass Bukem is celebrated for around the world.

One of the key innovators in Drum n Bass, Bukem is known for developing an accessible alternative to the hardcore genre’s speedy, assaultive energies. His style pays homage to the Detroit based sound of early techno coupled with his earlier influences, particularly the mellow, melodic sonorities of 1970s era jazz fusion.

Whether he’s playing with scattershot drums or mellow-yellow down-tempo, Bukem manipulates the mood as deftly as he chops a beat and is sure to set the shores of Koh Samui alight on the 17^th February at Beach Republic.

Loy Krathong – Festival Of Lights

Every year during the month of November, Thailand including Koh Samui, celebrates the magical and visual wonder of the Loy Krathong Festival. The festival is believed have orginated from an ancient practice of paying respect to the spirit of the waters. Today it is simply a time to have fun.

A “Krathong” is a handmade raft about 15 cm wide in diameter traditionally made from a  section of a banana tree trunk that is then decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, flowers, candles, photos and incense sticks.  The Krathongs may also contain nail clippings, hair strands and coins from the person who plans to use it.

“Loy” means ‘to float’ and on the evening of the 10th November this year, every Thai person will set adrift their Krathongs with friends, family and loved ones in to a river, lake or the ocean whereby the act of floating away the candle raft is symbolic of letting go of all one’s grudges, anger and defilements, so that the Krathong owner can start life afresh on a better foot.

Celebrated widely across Thailand, with the festival comes lantern releases, fireworks and a general party atmosphere as people hope for great luck and prosperity in the times that follow.
